HYGGE-THEMED PRE-HOLIDAY TEAM MEETING
Employee Experience • Internal Communications • Experience Design • Engagement Strategy
CHALLENGE
Create a memorable year-end team meeting that celebrated the accomplishments of the first half of the fiscal year while helping employees transition into the holiday season with a sense of appreciation, connection, and balance. The meeting needed to engage a globally distributed team and encourage participation in a virtual environment.
ACTION
I developed the meeting's creative concept around the Danish tradition of hygge, which emphasizes comfort, togetherness, and enjoying life's simple moments. Rather than creating a traditional business presentation, I built an experience that reinforced the theme from the weeks leading up to the event through the meeting itself.
I created the presentation, developed the promotional communications, and executed a multi-week messaging plan that encouraged team members to participate by wearing cozy sweaters, holiday attire, or comfortable clothing. As excitement grew, several European teammates volunteered to contribute content that reflected their own holiday traditions, making the meeting feel more authentic and representative of our global team.
The presentation combined business updates with lighthearted visuals, seasonal storytelling, and interactive moments, while the meeting concluded with a simple reminder to disconnect, spend time with family and friends, and return refreshed for the new year. Even our General Manager embraced the theme, helping set a relaxed and welcoming tone for the entire event.
RESULT
The themed meeting transformed a routine year-end update into a shared experience that encouraged participation, strengthened team connection, and closed the year on a positive note. By carrying the hygge concept through the communications, presentation, and event experience, the meeting felt cohesive, memorable, and intentionally designed around the employee experience rather than the agenda alone.
