CHALLENGE
Our annual Global Customer Experience offsite was the only time many team members met in person. I wanted attendees to feel welcomed from the moment they arrived while creating an easy way to break the ice and encourage conversations among colleagues who had only worked together virtually.
ACTION
Inspired by our team's focus on delivering differentiated customer experiences, I designed a personalized badge experience for every attendee using the newly released Microsoft Copilot image generation capabilities.
Working with an early Copilot prompt framework, I invited each team member to create a custom avatar using their own physical characteristics, interests, and personality. I then incorporated each avatar into the event badge design, ensuring every attendee received a badge that was uniquely their own.
The concept evolved over two consecutive annual events. During the first offsite, I partnered with our print vendor to produce custom avatar stickers that attendees added to their badges during registration. Based on what I learned, I streamlined the process the following year by collecting avatars before the event and integrating them directly into the printed badges, creating a smoother check-in experience while preserving the same personalized touch.
RESULT
The personalized badges became an immediate conversation starter throughout the event. Team members enthusiastically compared avatars, introduced themselves to colleagues they had only met virtually, and frequently asked how they could create additional avatars after the event. The project demonstrated an early, practical application of generative AI while creating a memorable employee experience that reinforced our team's customer-centric culture.
