Mask Selection Digital Tool

My role on this project:
I worked as a copywriter and photographer on a small team selected from the University of Washington
Communication Leadership Program. I developed the social media messaging and worked with the Public Works team at the Department of L&I to make sure it hit the mark.

Our objectives were:
  • Develop a simple tool that users can click through to determine the right mask to wear as they work.
  • Through a digital marketing campaign, spread awareness about the tool.

Posts were shared on L&I's Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, then re-shared and boosted across agencies and stakeholders throughout the United States.
Fun Facts about this project:
  • Among the many challenges my team faced, was the fact that there were virtually no stock photos of professionals wearing masks in late 2020. Our Graphic Design team member did a fantastic job of adding realistic masks to the photos used in our social media campaign.
  • I put masks on the famous Waiting for the Interurban statues and took the photo that was used for social media.
  • All posts were shared in English and Spanish.

Background Information:
Non-profit, Restart Partners  helped the
Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) redesign and promote their Mask Selection eTool as well as get the word out on social media about their Agricultural COVID-19 Requirements Training Tool Kit.
These tools help businesses in
the agricultural and non-agricultural sectors make informed choices about whether to use a cloth face cover, mask, or respirator based on COVID-19 transmission risk. In partnership with Block by Block Creative, my team conducted usability testing and updated the tool’s user interface in English and Spanish.
