My Sailing Camps and Boats

I attend sailing camp for 1–2 weeks at a time during the summer.
Here are the places I’ve trained and the types of boats I’ve sailed:
2025 – San Diego Yacht Club
Boats: Sabot and J/22
  • The Sabot is a small, stable dinghy that’s great for learning the basics of sailing.
  • The J/22 is a 22.5-foot keelboat known for being fast, stable, and easy to sail. It has a fixed fin keel, a transom-hung rudder, and a fractional sloop rig that helps with speed and control.

2024 – San Diego Yacht Club
Boats: Sabot and Flying Junior (FJ)
  • The Flying Junior is a two-person dinghy often used in high school and college programs. It’s quick, responsive, and great for both learning and racing with a teammate.

2023 – San Diego Yacht Club
Boat: Sabot (Naples Sabot)
  • The Sabot is an 8-foot, single-handed dinghy. It’s lightweight, easy to handle, and perfect for beginners learning to sail solo.

Best memory: telling jokes to the U.S. navy over the radio

Scariest memory: when there was a lot of wind and you had to save the day.
2022 – Mt. Baker Rowing & Sailing Center
Boat: Optimist (Opti)
  • The Opti is a small, single-person dinghy designed for young sailors. It has a fiberglass hull and simple rigging, making it a popular choice for learning.

2019 – Seattle Yacht Club
Boat: Optimist (Opti)
  • The Opti is one of the most common boats for beginner sailors around the world. It helps teach balance, control, and basic racing techniques.

Sailing Lore

Best jokes for sailing camp.
When you played rock, paper, scissors with someone on a yacht.
When you were racing and asked a guy on a sailboat to block your friends so you could win.
when no one would jump in so you did.
